Our History

Tanga-born Mohamed who enjoys working with the rural communities because his life’s work began there conceived the inception of Tanzania ecoVolunteerism (TeV).

Tanzania ecoVolunteerism was thus established in 2001 and registered by the government of the United Republic of Tanzania with a certificate number SO. 11297 on January 31st, 2001 under the Society ordinance Cap 337 of 1954.

Since our inception and 15 years of working, over 3,500 Tanzanian and international youth have had life changing experiences with TeV. TeV has been working for 15 years without any core funding from governments/international donors. The organization has been keeping its initiatives through local community ventures and volunteers.

RushaRoho Restaurant is a social enterprise of TeV that serves local community and all our volunteer and provides employment to local women and men of Tanga. The menu is based on a traditional Swahili cuisine.

The involvement of youth is critical to the success of Tanzania ecoVolunteerism developmental initiatives and that volunteerism is the guiding spirit. Partnership with local NGO’s, CBO’s and the community in capacity building is critical in the long-term sustainability and relevance of our work.
